Along my self-development journey as a student at The University of Houston, I created and established The Melanie Dolls. Which is a black doll company that actively works to impact, empower, and positively transform the lives of black girls. My company has created an avenue where collectively, black girls can feel seen, and individually they can see themselves. Each Melanie Doll accurately represents the black demographic and teaches girls how to feel exceptionally beautiful inside and out, learn to gain self-love, and develop courage—ultimately, equipping them with the confidence and courage that is necessary to influence their limitless potential in life. As a woman, I have learned that it is essential that you know yourself completely, you see yourself completely, and you love yourself completely.

But the many oppositions I faced have led me to the most beautiful destination. Her “Breonna” doll is currently available for pre-order anticipated to be released in March 2022, though that is not the only thing we can expect to see. The company is also planning to launch the Angela doll, inspired by activist Angela Davis, later this year.

Black and Forth is a block of commercial space that will house five Black, female-owned small businesses. Thomas began her business without financial support or investors and saved money from an internship to get started in 2021.
