If you’ve got the stamina for it, you can climb to the top of these dunes, but beware of hiking in the midday summer sun when the sand is blisteringly hot. The facility has tons of amazing animals native to the Rocky Mountain Front, such as elk, grizzly bears, and mountain lions. You can even watch the staff feed the animals and learn about the behavior and habitat while you’re there. When I called to reserve two days during the week I was told they had one spot left that was $42.
Personally I’ll give one of the other parks in the area a try next time. We actually intended to stay [pii_email_55ce5d2d85c8250d448c] about 50 miles south, but a fire changed our plans. The sites are a little tight, but not horrible.
